Wolverley Surgery is located in Wolverley, a small village on the outskirts of Kidderminster in Worcestershire. We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups. There are around 3300 patients registered at the Surgery. There has been a Doctors surgery on the site since 1962.
The Surgery comprises of 2 Doctors working from a purpose built premises. We have a free car park and good access for wheelchair users.

From 19th July 2021, patients ( age 11 & over ) will still be required to wear a face covering/ mask at all times while in the practice.
Important changes to routine and non-urgent blood test appointments
All GP practices are affected by the current national shortage of blood tubes and are taking urgent steps alongside our hospitals to prioritise their use for people with the greatest clinical need. This includes testing for serious conditions such as cancer.
We are following national guidance which has been issued in response to the shortage. As a result, we need to cancel and delay a number of patient appointments for blood tests deemd routine or non-urgent. If you have a routine blood test appointment the reception team at the surgery will be in touch directly if they need to cancel your appointment, this will be by phone or by text message.
Please be assured that appointments will be rescheduled once the situation has improved, and in line with national guidance. There are a few things you can do if you are affected by this change:
• Keep checking our website for regular updates – we will be sharing the latest patient information here as soon as we receive it.
• Check your phone for messages from us – we will also be using our patient text service to keep people informed.
• Please don’t call or contact us with questions about routine blood tests – we are experiencing exceptional levels of demand at the moment, and your cooperation will help us to reach those without smartphone or internet access with this critical information.
• Do get contact us if your condition worsens or changes so that we can prioritise your blood test if necessary following clinical review.
The changes are likely to be in place for several weeks. We will keep all our patients regularly updated as the national situation changes. We fully understand the frustration this is likely to cause and apologise for the inconvenience.
When We Are Closed
If you need medical treatment outside normal surgery hours, the surgery answerphone will direct you to the Out Of Hours Service

The Out Of Hours Service is located along side the Minor Injuries Unit at Kidderminster Hospital but operates independently from it.
The Service is open from 6.30pm-8.00am Mondays-Friday morning and from 6.30 pm on Fridays until 8.00am on Monday morning and on all Bank Holidays.
Although the Out Of Hours Service is staffed by General Practitioners and specially trained nurses, it is not a substitute for your own doctors surgery.
If you think you have a problem that will not wait until normal surgery hours, please telephone the Service and the nurse or doctor on duty will advise you what to do next. Please do not drop in.
The current NHS Digital (NHSD) extract of GP data for Research purposes (known as the GPDPR) has been delayed due to NHSD wishing to review the way in which this data will be collected, to conduct more public involvement and information about the plans and change the way in which patients can opt out of the extract of their GP data.
Currently the only way to opt out is to complete a Type 1 opt out form and return this to the practice by the 1st September. However, this extract will not be taken until the NHSD have changed the way it will take the data and respect the patient’s choice for using their data. NHSD are introducing the following changes to the opt out process which will mean that patients will be able to change their opt-out status at any time::-
- Patients do not need to register a Type 1 opt-out by 1st September to ensure their GP data will not be uploaded.
- NHS Digital will create the technical means to allow GP data that has previously been uploaded to the system via the GPDPR collection to be deleted when someone registers a Type 1 opt-out.
- The plan to retire Type 1 opt-outs will be deferred for at least 12 months while we get the new arrangements up and running and will not be implemented without consultation with the RCGP, the BMA and the National Data Guardian.
This means that you can opt out at any time in the future and NHSD will delete data that they already have taken for research purposes, the deadline of the 01/09/2020 has been delayed until a new system of opt out is developed. Hopefully, this will be a simple centralised approach via the NHS app or NHS website to avoid paper form and administration work for your GP.
We will update you when we know more about the NHSD plans to change how you can control who has access to your data.
New Shared Care Record delivering better, safer care for all our patients
We wanted to let you know that we are finally connecting our systems to offer joined-up health and care records, which will enable better, safer care and treatment for all our patients.
As a GP, it is difficult to provide joined-up care with so many separate systems for handling patient information. These were not connected, meaning that you often had to repeat your story each time you received care at a different organisation, or with a different health professional. The Shared Care Record means up-to-date records will be immediately available to professionals caring for you as a patient, when you need direct care.
It will mean, for instance, a doctor in a hospital, or a paramedic who attends a 999 call will be able to confidentially access the same crucial information that we can at the Practice, such as details of any allergies and current medications, bringing potentially life-saving benefits.
Robust security measures are in place to protect your health information and all staff must follow the law on keeping your information confidential.
The Shared Care Record is not the same as the General Practice Data for Planning and Research Directions (GPDPR), which is a national NHS Digital initiative to use GP practice data for research and planning purposes.
The Shared Care Record is a local initiative to share information with organisations directly involved in your care to ensure that you receive prompt and appropriate treatment when you need it.
